In my previous blog post I promised to teach you the steps to help you reprogram your Prosperity DNA™ so you can override the messages that will keep you stuck in wealth-reducing habits.
Throughout history many great thinkers have written and spoken about the mental maps, pictures and thoughts that ultimately determine the life we create for ourselves.
Here are but a few examples:
• “The mind is everything; what you think, you become.” – Buddha
• “We become what we contemplate.” – Plato
• “Change your thoughts and you change your world.” – Norman Vincent Peale
So what does this have to do with helping us to achieve our financial planning goals for financial freedom?
Let me briefly explain how our mind processes our thoughts.
If I ask you not to think about a freshly baked warm slice of apple pie topped with a scoop of your favorite ice cream, what happens? You probably have an image of hot apple pie a la mode firmly imprinted in your mind.
If I say to you, “Don’t sit down,” what your mind glue attaches to is “sit down”.
If I ask you what you don’t want and you say “I don’t want any more credit card debt,” guess what your mind retains? If you said “credit card debt”, you’re right.
If you can take those things that you don’t want and express them as desires and intentions, you will stop getting more of what you’ve always gotten. You will begin to create what you’ve always wanted and desired because, to paraphrase the famous people mentioned above, whatever we focus on is drawn to us.
What if you tried this exercise …
Make a list of just three items in your personal finance life that you don’t want/have/like.
Your list might look like this:
1. I don’t want credit card debt
2. I don’t have retirement savings.
3. I don’t like to argue with my partner about personal finance issues.
So what do you really want? Get clear and next to each item above fill in your financial freedom desire or intention.
It might look like this:
“I don’t want credit card debt” becomes “I want an abundance of money”
“I don’t have retirement savings” becomes “I have money to save for retirement”
“I don’t like to argue with my partner about personal finance issues” becomes “I like to formulate a spending plan with my partner”
The first step in achieving financial freedom is through financial planning - to know exactly what you want by first figuring out what you don’t want.
We create the life we live through our choices and the messages we send to our subconscious minds on a daily basis. This is the key to creating wealth.
Your comments and feedback are encouraged and welcome.
