« Personal Finance Expert Marc Woolf | Home | The Top Ten Ways to Tell if You Need a Personal Finance Life Preserver »

Does This Behavior Make My Debt Look Too Big?

Do you snicker at other people when they talk about a household budget? Is each week a personal finance nail-biter until the next payday? Do you panic when the bills arrive in your mailbox? Do you frequently borrow money from family and friends because you never seem to have enough of your own?

If this sounds like you or someone you know, keep reading. Think about the people you know whose lives are a personal finance fiasco. Those difficulties could be the result of behavior that’s masking a deeper set of problems.

Frequently, people who are unhappy or insecure overcompensate by living beyond their means. That isn’t to say all unhappy people overspend. But we live in an instant gratification world where ‘wants’ often take precedence over ‘needs’. As a result, personal finances are often mugged by fantasy.

The consequences of living this way include: higher levels of stress, poor self-worth, feeling out of control, suicidal thoughts and a retirement that will be extremely uncomfortable.

In my next three posts, I’ll identify some of the warning signs that you or someone you know has a problem with debt and overspending.

Own the power of your personal finances and retire a millionaire!
